Why does segregation occur?

Segregation in concrete occurs when the aggregates separate from the rest of the concrete. This may cause low resistance and greater contractions in the concrete. Some of the recommendations to avoid segregation are: to place the concrete as close as possible to its final position; not to pour the concrete from a height exceeding 1m. to avoid excessive turnaround in the mix and never to move the concrete by using an immersion vibrator.
