Why is it so important to cure the concrete?

The hardening of concrete depends on hydration, which is the chemical reaction between cement and water. The speed of hydration depends on temperature, the weather and relative humidity. The concrete must remain in a wet state for at least the first 7 days after pouring. This may be done through sprinkling or watering; applying a curing membrane, or by covering the element with a plastic film. When temperatures are very high or very low, a special protection procedure must be implemented in order to avoid cracks due to quick evaporation or freezing.
