What is Portland Cement?
Portland Cement is a hydraulic cement mainly composed of calcium
silicates. Hydraulic cements, as the term itself indicates, set and harden when they chemically
react with water. During this reaction, which is called hydration, cement combines with water to
make a paste which has an aspect that resembles rock. When this paste is added to gravel and sand,
it acts as an adhesive and joins all the particles to form the concrete, which is the construction
material most widely used in the world.
