Which is the function of synthetic fibre in the concrete mix?

The most widely used synthetic fibres in the concrete industry, are those made of polypropylene. These fibres are used to, under certain environmental conditions, avoid or reduce the cracks due to plastic contraction. That is, they act when the concrete is still in a plastic state. In the hardened state, the polypropylene fibres do not add any significant benefit to the concrete.
