Within this framework, GCC Cemento, S.A. de C.V., in collaboration with the Instituto Tecnológico de Chihuahua II (ITCH II), carried out the Architectural Design Contest: Sustainable and Industrialized Bus Station ITCH II – GCC 2026, an initiative for Architecture students to design a new bus station for the campus.
The project seeks to develop a functional, sustainable, and industrialized architectural proposal, with the possibility of being manufactured and permanently installed on the ITCH II campus. Additionally, the winning design may be considered for replication in different locations across the city, according to GCC’s needs and criteria.
During the contest, participating teams worked on proposals that had to consider construction feasibility, fast on-site installation, cost optimization, urban weather resistance, and adaptability to the assigned site conditions. The designs also considered comfort and functionality elements such as sun protection, user capacity, seating, shelter, waste receptacles, integrated lighting, and, optionally, native vegetation with low water consumption.
The final presentation took place on June 8 at the ITCH II facilities, with the participation of public sector authorities, institute representatives, and GCC leaders. During the session, each team had the opportunity to present and defend its proposal before the judging panel, highlighting the creativity, technical approach, and community impact vision behind their projects.
ITCH II authorities also participated, including María Elena Martínez Castellanos, Academic Deputy Director, and Sara Elizabeth Rivas Prado, Head of the Department of Earth Sciences.
